slippery slope

my mind is climbing up the roof
and sliding down the slant
stumbling on the shingles
trying to locate
my beating heart

and I have thoughts
pulling themselves up the drain pipes
reaching for the height
so I can get a good view
of what’s going on out there

and my soul has been playing
hide and seek for days
trying to ditch the spirits
fading into dust

maybe I need to be kissed
in that way that reminds me I’m alive
instead of wandering streets half dead
as I’ve been; with a lost curiosity
that’s all consuming
and too dark to see

maybe I just need you to hold onto me
anchor me with your dead weight
and tell me in a whisper
everything’s going to be ok

keep me out of danger
and I’ll try to stop getting lost

Day 05- A picture of somewhere you’ve been to
I climbed the wall with Travel Week writer Cindy on a culture and civilization press tour to my motherland. I met her at Toronto Pearson and knew her for ten days in China.
When we got to a high tower we turned to each other and looked down in awe — you can see this shit from space! “I’m glad we did this together,” she said. Nodding, “Yes, I will always remember climbing the great wall with you,” I agreed. It was a beautiful moment and I may never see that chick again — but I’ll always remember that awestruck feeling of being high up on one of the wonders of the world with that girl I knew for ten days.

fragments of my nonfiction

cluttered mind sorts through job postings
forwarded and found
and you ponder
pitter pattering little thoughts
of what would it be like to work there
and be that for a while

dazed; in sunglasses in a good friend’s backyard
while friends chatter around you under trees
the memory is made and the burgers are served
it’s a bbq in 2012 and you’re internal soundtrack spins
inside it’s 1974 and you’re stoned out of your mind

trying to keep you in the here and now
a beat goes by and you missed the last story told
by the person on your right
because you did a rewind and nostalgia triumphed
as you recall this random wednesday night
last year this time when your mouth tasted different

something sweet expired some time ago
but you keep chewing a stale piece of thought
sometimes when you try
the flavour comes back

and once you’ve sampled something once
you know what it tastes like forever

forecast calls for overcast
but its been sunny anyway

sometimes i like it in the dark

quote
If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I’m neurotic as hell. I’ll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days.

Day 01- A recent picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself
The gf took this photo of me sifting through sweet street records in Kensington yesterday.  It’s, y’know, not the most flattering but it’s the most recent!
001. I am a 27-year-old waitressing journalist002. Just a gaysian with a beagle003. There is a scar on my right hand from that time there was a hole in it on this very random Friday the 13th back in 2010004. I have been in love once. I had paws instead of hands, a bleeding heart, made too many memories and thought I was an otter.005. For fun, cousin and I make videos for our youtube channel One and a Half Asians006. I have published over 300 pieces for TV Guide. 007. I listen to records every single day and I could not survive without my sweet, sweet crosley suitcase. I have Bette Davis Eyes on vinyl — that has always been and still is (not to mention, always will be) my favourite song.008. I accidentally ate Clark’s “pupcorn” when I was stoned last week and thought it was a piece of crunchy cheetos. Turns out my aunt packed my beagle treats in a ziplock because he liked it when he was over and I thought they were for me.  I didn’t even notice that “crunchy cheeto” was in the shape of a doggie.  It was disgusting.009. Though I loved doing the press tour to China — I still hate the way my article was edited when it was published. I never thought I’d be a travel writer.010. One time I was in Donovan Baily’s Toronto penthouse with my old manager from Hooters (yes, I worked there when I was 19) and my friend blew him.  I spent the first two hours telling him he was lying about who he was and then insisted it wasn’t much of a feat anyway because no one cared now that he was the fastest runner in, like, 1996. 011.  I am a cheeseball. I believe in love, kismet, fairy tales and happy endings. Though my faith has been tested on multiple occasions, I still believe what’s meant to be will be and things like fate will always make things happen.
012. I have a miniature village in my headboard. And an alter ego called Clover Pink — she is a pink rub-a-dub doggie created in 1991.
013. Feeling luckiest, I have the very best friends and family. Well aware of how fortunate I am to be blessed with the amazing souls that warm up my life.
014. I’m a retired cam-girl.  Back in the early 2000s, there was a huge Internet community and I participated in things like survivor cam. I am a serious closet geek and I love the Interwebs.
015. I’m in desperate need for a roommate on July 1st.  If you know anyone in Toronto who needs a home — CONTACT ME!  [ Shameless roommate ad here ]
